Classic Stone Facades
A classic stone facade covers a designated area with stone, whether it is a foundation, fireplace, or other. Classic stone refers to a facade that is 4″ thick or more. In a foundation facade, the stones must sit on either a concrete footing or a steel angle iron ledge that is attached to the foundation with bolts. In a fireplace facade, usually, there is a ledge off the chimney footing for us to build from. If there is no masonry footing, it is possible to check with an engineer to reinforce the floor joists in the basement. In a more traditional setting, a fieldstone facade is installed on an addition to an older home. Keeping the same style as the mason who installed the work years before is paramount. Fieldstone, bluestone, granite, and sandstone are popular choices for this kind of installation.
